In this article today we’re bringing you the stunning creation by Simon Weniger, which is in fact his own take on Alfa Romeo 156 GTAm. Just to remind you, one-off 156GTAm was shown on Bologna Motor Show in 2002, and it was built by the N.Technology, the Fiat’s Group partner at the time. Sadly, this concept never reached serial production.
Simon, on the other hand, saw an opportunity to close the gap for his own pleasure.
The main inspiration for this was the friend’s 156 GTA whose incredibly sounding Busso engine lit the spark that started his amazing creation.
Another event that helped push his project through was the introduction of Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm.
In his own words, the main focus of the project was to close the gap left by the fact that the 156 GTAm has never gone into production. He wanted to create something special for his pleasure, something tangible, that could be enjoyed every day.
He wanted to create both a successor of the type 105 Giulia GTAm and a car that comprises some of the features he liked most about the 952 GTAm prototype that had just seen the light of day.
The best part of this project is that it is not a copy of a Giulia GTAm, but rather his take with design elements that characterize only 156 model. At a certain point in the project the wide-body mod was also considered, but the car owner, as everyone in the ARC team, thought that the original GTA body shape was more appealing.
Honestly, this was the right decision since most wide-body kits tend to alter the beautiful original design negatively. The main goal of the project was to close the gap, and we can all agree that the gap has been closed!
